I think Franklin interpreted the idea of moral perfection very well. He mentions all of the important aspects of being a good person, although I am not sure what he means by order and chastity. In his attempt to achieve moral perfection, I think Franklin’s plan was okay, but it could have been improved. In his plan, he works on one trait at a time until he feels he has perfected that specific trait. He then goes down all the traits he listed and believes moral perfection will be reached when he finishes. I think it can be improved so it can work faster. Franklin mentions one trait helping another, and this is the idea he could have improved on. Instead of focusing on one specific ideal, Franklin could have gone throughout his day normally. Next, he could go back and think about any faults he made and address the corresponding traits. In conclusion, Franklin’s quest for moral perfection was along the right lines, but could have been executed better.

My main goal in life is just to be successful. My idea of success would be to have a job that I actually enjoy, a fair amount of income, and one or two children. Attaining these things would bring me happiness, which is a meter for my success. I also hope to keep to my Christian ideals and not become a sinful individual. I don’t really have a backup plan because I can still be please whether or not I achieve all these goals.

A great aphorism to live by is “Small deeds done are better than great deeds planned.” This is great because it motivates me to get things finished, no matter how insignificant or monotonous they seem. It’s also inspirational because it reminds me that planning something I know can’t handle is never a good idea. Rather than focusing on one huge project, take one step at a time and do the small tasks first. Doing this will always accomplish more than trying to do everything at once and being overwhelmed. In conclusion, “Small deeds done are better than great deeds planned” are great words to live by.

so cheesy!

To become a better person I need to…

  1. Realize I am not always right
  2. Accept I will not always have my way
  3. Be more open-minded
  4. Not shut others out
  5. Never give up

I would make a personal sacrifice for my freedom, most likely in the form of war. I cannot tolerate being under a foreign control and thus freedom is very important to me. Much like the beliefs of Thomas Paine and others during the Revolutionary period, I would be willing to go to war to gain or defend my freedom, fully knowing I am risking my life. Whether this risk is taken for myself, my family, or my country is of no matter, as long as freedom is the ultimate goal.

I believe the most important technological invention to this day is the computer. It changed the very structure of our lives and has shaped generations. The computer took tedious everyday tasks and made them simpler. It also made almost all information very easy to access. With computers, one may access the internet and have instant access to a vast variety of information stored on computers. Communication was changed by computers as well. The invention of the allowed people from all over the world to communicate in seconds. As technology progresses, the computer is enhanced with new capabilities, and one day computers might just power our whole way of life.

The computer has changed how we do many daily activities. Before the computer, many daily tasks were a hassle compared to the speed we do them at today. Writing a document could take hours, and sending it to someone else may take days depending on how it was mailed. Businesses could only advertise through billboards, radio, and newspapers, thus limiting them to a more ‘local’ range of customers. The extraordinary invention of the computer changed all this. The first computer was nothing short of amazing, even though it took up one whole room. Over time, new optimizations made it a practical household object, thus changing how people lived. Word processing was taken to a new dimension; one’s work could be saved and accessed at the push of a button. Sending it to someone became incredibly simple after the implementation of electronic mail, or e-mail. Putting an advertisement on a website changed the global market and allowed businesses to expand all over the world more easily. These abilities are very useful, but perhaps the most beneficial capability of the computer is how it makes information readily available.

The main use of computers today is to access the internet. In simple terms, the internet is a global network of information that can be accessed by any computer connected to it. The internet makes it easy for anyone to gain knowledge about almost anything one may desire. Before computers, news was usually spread through radio and newspapers. More specific information was only found in books, so this information was limited to how available the books were. Therefore, the computer proved to be useful in searching for specific information and finding news. This new accessibility revolutionized the way we store and learn information. Although being able to find the information is important, it is equally as important to be able to communicate it.

Communication plays an important role in any society. If nobody ever communicated, nothing would ever get done. Computers made communicating much easier. Electronic mail dominates written mail in both the speed the message can be written and the speed at which the mail is received. E-mail also has advantages over using a telephone. Anything sent can be viewed repeatedly, which makes writing down information from a telephone conversation obsolete. Another form of computer communication is instant messaging, which allows two users to communicate rapidly in text. New technology has enabled some IM clients with free voice chat, completely erasing the need for a home phone. The computer has benefits in both searching and sharing information, but is it too good to be true?

Despite the computer being a revolutionary tool, it does have downsides. Computer gaming is preventing some children from getting proper exercise, thus contributing to childhood obesity. Computer crimes are also a downside. The internet has made it easier for predators to find victims. Identity theft is happening more frequently as well thanks to computers. Some people even fear that the computer is becoming too advanced, that it will eventually take over our lives. But could new technology really take us over? The answer is no. No matter how able artificial intelligence and the computer may become, they could never match the human brain’s ability to think and adapt. Overall, the computer’s benefits outweigh the consequences, ultimately making it an enormous milestone in mankind’s technological advancement.

The most important ideals of life to me are trying my best  in everything I do and not being worried about what anyone may think. To this point in my life, I have experienced a few drastic losses. One of our dogs passed away when I was seven, and my sister’s bird did when I was twelve. Moving out-of-state twice or my parent’s divorce could also be considered a loss or setback. Thankfully, no human being close to me has yet to pass away. Although, my grandmother came close a few years ago. While at work, she experienced a seizure. Getting a call from the hospital that night was certainly a frightening experience. I still remember praying for her with my family at the hospital. If she had passed away, I think that I would be able to get over it. My family and my belief in God would help me overcome it.
